Reporting a wrong answer

If a calculator gives a result you believe is wrong, the most useful message contains four things:

Every calculator on this site is tested against hand-worked values before release, so a wrong answer usually means one of three things: a unit conversion at an edge case, a rounding rule that behaves badly on small inputs, or an input range the tool was never designed for. All three are worth reporting.

What gets fixed, and how fast

A confirmed arithmetic error is corrected and logged on the corrections page. The log is public and it is not pruned — including entries where the error was embarrassing.

Turnaround depends on the complexity. A unit error is usually a day. A formula that is structurally wrong takes longer, because the fix has to be re-derived and re-tested against the worked examples.

What is not offered

Address

corrections@deckformula.com

Plain text is fine. Screenshots help when the problem is visual. If you are reporting a code citation that is out of date, include the edition your jurisdiction has adopted — that is the single most useful piece of context for a code-related correction.

Privacy of what you send

Email sent to that address is read by one person and is not added to a mailing list, shared, or used to build a profile. If a correction is published, the correction is credited only if you ask for it to be.

Questions people actually ask

How do I report an error in a calculator?

Send the page, your inputs, the result you got, the result you expected and how you calculated it. That is enough to reproduce and fix it.

Do you answer design questions?

No. Sizing beams, joists or footings for a specific deck is a licensed-engineer question, and this site deliberately does not answer it.

How quickly are errors fixed?

A unit or rounding error is usually a day. A structurally wrong formula takes longer because it has to be re-derived and retested against the worked examples.
